Hey...Hey...Hey!! So...
I am partnering with The Sandbox, LOTUS, Rae Images, and YOU to do something awesome. Wanna hear about it? Here it go...
The Sandbox is a non-profit organization that helps families with children
who have been diagnosed with cancer and other life-altering
diseases. Last year, The Sandbox, held a prom ('An Evening of Stars') for patients (13-21 years old) who were
not able to go to theirs, or who unfortunately, may not be able to well enough to make it to their own. The Sandbox wanted to give kids struggling with illness a chance to get dressed up, be pampered, walk a red carpet, be in front of flashing paparazzi, and dance the night away without any other thoughts burdening their minds.
Last year there were 150 in attendance, this year....they expecting over 350! Tuxedo rentals for the boys/men are donated, but
the girls rely on donations of dresses (from YOU and ME). The Sandbox wants to be able
to provide everything a young girl or boy would need to prepare for
prom, at no cost to their families (who may already be financially
struggling to meet the physical and emotional needs of their children).
Last year (at 'Try On Day') we had over 800 formal dresses for the girls to choose from.
They came into a beautiful hotel lobby in South Park where we had rows
of racks holding formal gowns and cocktail dresses. The kids got to work with a stylist to choose a
dress, outline alterations, and then pick out accessories (and shoes) to
complete their outfit. We could always use dresses for young
girls (think Easter or Church dresses) and plus size gowns/cocktail
dresses for the older girls/women. So, please...if you, your daughter, niece, friend, mother, aunt, cousin, girlfriend, wife, etc. has any gently used
dresses or accessories (earrings, shoes, necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories, clutches, wraps/pashminas), please consider donating them to The Sandbox
for their Evening of Believing-Prom 2012.
There will be a dress drive this Saturday, June 2nd from 1pm-6pm at LOTUS
(*a women’s boutique) in The Metropolitan (in uptown Charlotte, across
from Target, next to Trader Joe’s). If you donate a dress, or other
requested items that day at LOTUS, you will receive 20% off of any
purchase at LOTUS (*that day only). Please feel free to check out LOTUS! You will also receive $20 off any
photography package from now until August 18th from the fabulous, talented, Ebony of Rae Images Photography.
